Vintage Home Audio Equipment

The Vintage Stereo System
I know I'm not the only one that is completely fanatical about vintage home audio. I have been collecting these beautiful pieces for over thirty years now and could open a store filling the walls with receivers, turntables, EQ's, amp's from top to bottom. I've collected over two thousand albums including every genre under the rainbow. I love talking about stereos or just looking at the flickering lights from my equalizer placing my thirty-two year old Yamaha headphone on my ears, closing my eyes, and enjoy the awesome sight and sound of my classic collections.
I first started gathering stereo components at a very young age when a friend invited me over for dinner. When I walked into his house every room could be felt with a rumbling bass that would shake walls, rattle windows, and a pounding in my chest. The display was neatly organized in-between decorative concrete blocks layered in painted black wood panels. So, I took the money I saved from mowing lawns and a paper route ( about $650.00) stuffed it in my pockets anxiously awaiting my purchase of some fine audio equipment. After being amazed with all the gadgets the store had to offer, I laid my crumbled up money on the counter and bought a Pioneer SX-737 Receiver, Pioneer PL-45D turntable, Pioneer EQ, and a pair of used, earth shaking Advent speakers that remains to this very day.
Now, I proudly boast an amazing collection that include the following:
RECEIVERS-(Pioneer SX-1250)-(Marantz 2270)-(Marantz 4230)-(Kenwood KR-6030)-(Pioneer SX-737)-(Sansui 990 EB)
TURNTABLES-(Pioneer PL45D)-(Technics 1200)
EQ'S-(Pioneer SG-9800)-(Pioneer SG-90)-(Sansui SE-9)
AMPLIFIERS-(Kenwood KA-5700)-(Marantz 510M)
CASSETTE-(Pioneer CT-F 500)-(Marantz 5025B)
SPEAKERS-(Advent Load Speakers)-(JBL L-150)-(Bose 10-2
Don't get me wrong, I also have a CD player, MP3 player and other modern tech toys to trifle with but nothing compares to a analog sound these ancient devices produce. The sheer beauty of solid wood surrounding the silver face plate with illuminating glow for the control panel. I have connected my Ipod right into the auxiliary of this thirty-five year old beast to play the thousands of downloads I've accumulated over the years.
There no telling how much money and time I have spent to satisfy my urning for music and electronics. Along with my stack of albums and stereo components, I have great memories that will last a lifetime because of one stereo system I bought when I was a kid. So, I hope you are willing to share stories on this same subject and send images of components you might have kept leaving a lasting impression to share with others.

Thank you for your comment BaliMermaid! I have been a fan of pioneer products for as long as I ca remember but I'm a huge fan of all vintage electronics as you can tell. The Pioneer SX 737 is still a power house to my system today and only have had minor work done to it such as replacing bulbs, lubed the controls, things like that. I actually replaced the bulbs with LED lighting. I will never have to change them out again.

I bought a similar, if not exactly the same model, Pioneer stereo set in 1969 when stationed in Germany. I had come into an exhibition for stereo equipment and the music the Pioneer system put out with, as you mention, bass that one could feel through the body, was amazing. It drew the attention of everyone, just as if it was today and all of a sudden Lady Gaga popped up singing in the middle of a convention room floor.
